Our First Cookie Orders: Kids in the Kitchen

Baking cookies with kids is more than just mixing ingredients and waiting for the oven timer. It’s a chance to create memories, learn new skills, and share joy through something delicious. Three Little Badgers is all that plus the opportunity for the boys to start their own business.

The Inception of Three Little Badgers

We love baking! Muffins and cookies are our favorites (both to bake and eat). And, we love college sports! The boys are always looking for business opportunity, too. For some reason, lemonade stands don't do so well in Wisconsin winters... :) Then my husband proposed an idea- how about we combine these together into a modern day lemonade stand that teaches core business skills, while benefiting UW sports and sharing deliciousness! With that, and a few (okay a lot of) hours of building a website and planning logistics, Three Little Badgers was born.

Measuring, Mixing, and Filling Orders

Scooping & Mixing!

So, we got our first few orders (yay!) and it was time to start baking! The kids loved measuring the ingredients; it was a fun bonus math lesson without them even realizing it. We also talked a lot about food safety (wearing hats, keeping our hands clean and gloves on, not licking our utensils to try all of the dough).

We measured, mixed, scooped and baked- what a fun way to wrap up the day after school! (Just the 2nd grader and PreK-er baked; we let the third little badger stay at daycare)

Building Memories One Cookie at a Time

The first orders are ready.

Success! Our first orders were baked and packed up (with some handwritten notes). Baking those first cookie orders was more than a kitchen task. It became a shared adventure filled with laughter, learning, and love. The kids gained confidence in the kitchen and a sense of accomplishment. They also learned that earning money takes work and time. Those little hands and big smiles make every cookie sweeter.
